Kardeisha Provo

Filmmaker | Creative Director

Kardeisha Provo is a filmmaker and creative director born and raised in the largest Indigenous Black community in Canada, North Preston Nova Scotia. She strives to make herself, her community, and the world better through creative visual storytelling. In her work, Kardeisha focuses on highlighting members in her communities to shed light and challenge misconceptions. Her main goal is to shift the minds of the people internally to not only see themselves as greater than they are portrayed but to showcase their collective success.

Kardeisha is a recent graduate of The Remix Project 15.0 film program. In 2021, she released a short film titled “North Preston: The Untold Story” part of the Being Black in Halifax Series which won Best Direction, Documentary Series at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards.

Over the years, Kardeisha has worked on many projects including branded commercials, music videos, behind the scenes videos as well as the launch of a self-titled YouTube channel that highlighted members of North Preston in attempts to shed light on her community to challenge misrepresentation. Kardeisha is also the recipient of the 2018 Nova Scotia Human Rights Award for her visual storytelling that has gained national and international attention.

Kardeisha is an advocate for the youth of her community by bridging barriers of communication. Her main goal is to shift the minds of her people to not only see themselves as greater than they are portrayed but to showcase their collective success. She speaks her truth and challenges the perception of the experiences of Black people in Canada.
